Petey is a 14-year-old
experimental artist living in Upstate NY. On his website www.suburbanalcuts.com
Petey shares his various creations: animated shorts, video movies, computer
games, comix, music, and mixes. You can also get a glimpse into Petey’s
mind through his blog, The Prophecies. Through his website you can sign up
for his monthly zine, The Mig, and buy his Cds. Recently, he has been hired
to design websites. You name it, Petey has probably made it.
Petey started drawing on the computer when he was six and made his first website
at twelve. He started prank calling Tom Scharpling's show on WFMU—a
much beloved free-form underground radio station. Eventually, Tom and Petey
became friends, and he remains a frequent caller and makes occasional guest
appearances. Petey believes that much of his fanbase comes from his exposure
on WFMU, which has a particularly active system of bulletin boards, record
fairs, lecture, and call-ins.
Above all, Petey's personality, style, and politics shine through his art.
Because he's able to cluster what some would consider philosophical writings
around his art, suburbanalcuts.com becomes a very rich site. His work shows
a high degree of social consciousness, for example, mashing up Martin Luther
King's speeches with blues music and found audio.
